GYROPLANES:
aka: Autogyros/Rotorcraft.

For a number of years now, Gyroplane pilots have been training at Henstridge under the auspices of Tony Melody, one of the very few gyroplane instructors in the country. Although the airfield is unlicensed, Tony operates under the terms of an exemption awarded by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The training is carried out according to a CAA approved syllabus, and pilots graduate with a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) (G).
Working mostly at weekends, but with occasional periods of intensive weekday work, the pilots spend many hours on the runway mastering the various skills required for qualification. Thereafter, local flying and qualifying land aways precede the issue of a licence.
Call Tony on 07956.447085 if you would like a trial lesson.
Charges for casual use of the airfield by gyroplane pilots/enthusiasts are available from the Ops desk on 01963.364231. If you want to visit the airfield to talk Gyroplanes, ALWAYS telephone the Ops desk before setting out to confirm that there will be someone here. All the pilots and the instructor travel here from afar and only ever come for flight training when the weather forecast is right.
